Exterior Mosaics Introduction
DROP US A NOTE FOR PRIORITY NOTIFICATION, SIGN-UPS ARE THROUGH GLEN ECHO PARK AND BEGIN AUGUST 11.
Introduction to Exterior Mosaics is essential for anyone interested in creating mosaics for outside applications. We will cover how to put mosaics together for permanent outdoor use (surviving freeze/thaw) using stained glass and other glass products.
The workshop kicks off with a comprehensive review of all materials suited for exterior applications including glass and ceramic. Students learn how to test tiles and other tesserae to determine feasibility for exterior application. Lecture covers exterior substrates, adhesives, setting, grouting, sealing, etc.
In this workshop, we design and create a garden paver (aka stepping stone). This is a great project as a first exterior mosaic artwork. There is so much to learn when making mosaics for outside and this project is the perfect balance between creativity and technical challenges. You will learn to mix thin-set mortar and tons for tricks to work with this all-important exterior-rated adhesive.
A separate supply fee of $70 includes 12″ x 12″ concrete substrate, a generous selection of stained glass, glass tiles, adhesive and grout.
Instructor provides designs, patterns, and inspiration materials, although students are welcome to do their own designs.
This workshop is suited for anyone new to mosaics or folks wishing to take their work to a new level. Students can expect a great deal of personal instruction and guidance and no question will go unanswered!
If you own please provide your own glass cutting tools, scorer, pliers, and mosaic wheel tool as well as tweezers, palette knife for spreading adhesive, and an apron.
Previous stained glass or mosaic experience is helpful but not required.
