Boots on the Ground: back to basics

About Instructor

SOLD OUT. This workshop is being offered only at the Contemporary Mosaic Artists Conference in Eugene, Oregon. Sign ups are through CMA. For more information about joining CMA or Conference details click here. Purcahse link takes you to their sign up.

The workshop will provide you with a solid knowledge base to create whatever you can imagine in mosaic. We begin with an overview of the most popular mosaic tesserae choices used in contemporary mosaics. After a review of substrates, adhesives, and hand tools used for each material, you will create take-home studio studies. This is an opportunity to try materials and hand tools new to you.

Learn how to select appropriate adhesives and the best substrate for any artwork location. We practice proper tool use and help you decide what are the best tools to have in your arsenal. This class has been designed exclusively for the CMA2 Conference and is suited for anyone who wants to expand their knowledge of materials and hand tools. Students will create a studio study to take home for future reference.

Separate $50 materials supply fee payable to Instructor at start of workshop.

Instructor supplies:  Included in the supply fee are materials for studio studies, substrate, adhesive, some tool loan, and purchasing guides for sourcing materials and tools. You will work with smalti, stained glass, millefiori, stone, porcelains, and ceramic.

Student please bring:  simple mosaic hand tools including wheel nipper, tile nipper, whatever tools you generally use including small spatulas, safety glasses, couple pairs of disposable gloves and apron.
