Mosaic & Found Object Assemblage: Fun Faces & Unique Creatures
About Instructor
Get ready to embark on a new creative adventure! Discover what happens when traditional and non-traditional mosaic materials combine to create offbeat, amusing portraits in this engaging class that blends mosaic techniques with assemblage art.
You will explore a mix of unconventional items, including recycled materials of unexpected origin, natural found objects, dish shards in pique assiette style, glass, tile, rusty bits, hand-built ceramics, pebbles, and more. In this workshop, you will learn how to work with these materials using appropriate tools, adhesives and substrates. You’ll pick up useful cutting techniques, review essential design principles, and create effective backgrounds to enhance your funny faces or unique creatures.
The instructor will provide a lightweight substrate measuring approximately 11” x 14”. this is an opportunity to master the use of thin-set mortar and be introduced to other adhesives suitable for mixed media compositions. Additionally, a generous assortment of mosaic materials will be available, including shells, pebbles, recycled items, odd metal and rusty stuff, smalti, broken dishes, glass and ceramic tile, and costume jewelry. For those who have attended the Mosaic Tapestry Workshop, think of that buffet on steroids!
