Mosaics for the Garden
Workshop held at Glen Echo Park, Glen Echo, MD. Sign ups tentatively begin April 21 thru Glen Echo website, drop us a note for priority notification. Of course all depends on status of Covid.
Create mosaics for the garden! Workshop kicks off with a comprehensive review of materials suited for exterior applications and an installation overview.
Design and create a beautiful garden paver or flower pot. Master cutting and learn to mix thin-set mortar. $65 supply fee covers materials and tool loan needed to complete your project.
Students must provide pre-cast concrete garden paver (one square foot) or a 8″ terra-otta pot. Project sizes with our time frame in mind.
This workshop is for anyone interested in creating mosaics for outside applications. We will cover how to put mosaics together for permanent outdoor use (surviving freeze/thaw) using stained glass and other glass products.
Learn about selecting substrates, materials and adhesives that will endure weather year round. Our adhesive is thin-set. Included in workshop supply fee is thin-set, grout and a GENEROUS selection of glass materials. If you have very specific color preferences please bring those materials. Feel free to contact instructor with any questions or concerns.
Students are asked to bring their own concrete paver or flower pot. We recommend a paver measuring one square foot (round or square, available from Home Depot, Lowes, garden center, etc.)
If student owns please provide your own glass cutting tools, scorer, pliers and mosaic wheel tool as well as tweezers, palette knife for spreading adhesive and an apron. Instructor will bring patterns, although students are welcome to do their own designs.
Previous stained glass or mosaic experience helpful but not required. If you do not own glass cutting tools, scorer, pliers and mosaic wheel tool contact instructor and we will loan, do not go and buy!
All skill levels welcome.
