This is a new offering developed exclusively for ATISG! In this workshop, you will learn how to transform a photograph, painting, or drawing of your choice into a stunning dimensional glass mosaic. Discover how to capture perspective by incorporating varying substrate heights, allowing you to experience a favorite image in a fresh and exciting way. We will delve into creating sculptural elements using Apoxie Sculpt and other unconventional materials. You will also learn about pattern making and will cut and assemble your substrate layers using appropriate tools.
A separate supply fee of $60 includes lightweight substrates of various thicknesses, Apoxie Sculpt adhesive, thin-set mortar, grout, power tool use and various other glass materials including filati, vitrograph, and glass rods. The finished artwork will be in the range of 12 “x 10”. Students provide their own stained glass and WeldBond adhesive.
The instructor will work with you IN ADVANCE to make a photo selection and will scale your image to the desired size.
Experience with mosaic or stained glass is strongly recommended. Students MUST submit a photo to the instructor one week in advance to allow time for sizing.
Students are responsible for bringing their own glass. ATISG store will be open throughout workshop hours, and included in the workshop fee is access to ATISG scrap glass, NO CHARGE.
These one-of-a-kind, fine art works are a unique way to preserve a cherished memory. This idea was hatched after creating a stained glass mosaic based on a personal photograph. “Day in Dingle” incorporates 3 separate layers. This photo worked especially well, the viewer peeks through the flowers.
“Good Night Little Sister” is based on a personal photograph, my grandson walks his sister to bed every night. The single element that inspired this was the little girl’s right hand on the door way. There are 3 layers and the glass is cut to show the perspective of walking into the room.
WHAT MAKES A GOOD PHOTO FOR THIS TECHNIQUE? Think about what would the “layers” be, three layers is substantial. Simple compositions.
