Join Maverick Mosaics in May 2027 for nine days exploring Santa Fe and the remarkable landscapes and communities of northern New Mexico.
Led by artist and educator Bonnie Fitzgerald, this carefully curated journey is designed for curious travelers who want to experience the places beyond the standard tourist itinerary. We’ll explore Santa Fe’s extraordinary art scene, visit artists and galleries, discover public art, experience historic and cultural sites, follow scenic roads, enjoy memorable meals, and uncover places you might never find on your own.
Our local Tour Conductor will travel with us throughout the journey, providing exceptional service, local knowledge, historical perspective, and access to hidden gems that make the trip feel personal rather than packaged.
Santa Fe & Georgia O’Keeffe
Santa Fe is our home base, giving us time to experience the city at a relaxed pace. We’ll explore its galleries, museums, historic neighborhoods, and public art, and enjoy its enchantingweekly Farmer’s market.
We’ll also step into the world of Georgia O’Keeffe, visiting her home and traveling through the landscapes that inspired her iconic paintings. Seeing the places she saw—and understanding the extraordinary landscape that surrounded her—adds a whole new dimension to her work.
The Landscapes of Northern New Mexico
One of the highlights is a scenic drive along the High Road to Taos, where the journey is as important as the destination. We’ll spend a day exploring Taos and the surrounding landscape before continuing our discovery of northern New Mexico.
We’ll visit the Puye Cliff Dwellings, an extraordinary archaeological and cultural site, and make a special trip to Los Alamos. Known worldwide for its pivotal role in the development of the atomic bomb, Los Alamos offers a fascinating and unexpected chapter in New Mexico’s history. It’s a place most visitors to Santa Fe never see—and one that adds another layer to understanding this complex region.
Along the way, our guide will take us beyond the obvious stops, introducing us to local places, stories, food, artists, and unexpected discoveries that bring New Mexico to life.
Your Santa Fe Home Base
For this journey, we’ll stay at La Fonda on the Plaza, one of Santa Fe’s most iconic hotels and a destination in its own right. Located directly on the historic Plaza, La Fonda has welcomed travelers for more than a century and is deeply woven into the story, art, and culture of Santa Fe. Its distinctive Southwestern architecture, handcrafted details, vibrant artwork, and historic character make the hotel an immersive introduction to the city—not simply a place to stay.
Step outside and you’re immediately in the heart of Santa Fe, surrounded by galleries, shops, restaurants, museums, and historic streets. After a day of exploring, return to the comfort and character of La Fonda, enjoy a meal or a drink, relax, and watch the energy of the Plaza unfold just outside your door.
And there’s a practical luxury, too: you unpack once and stay put for the entire nine-day journey. No packing and unpacking. No moving from hotel to hotel. La Fonda becomes our home base while we venture out to discover northern New Mexico. Price based on double occupancy; single supplement available. Airfare not included. Before we leave, we’ll gather for a hands-on mosaic project with Bonnie and create a small original artwork to take home. All materials are provided—a personal, creative reminder of your time in New Mexico.
