In this two-day workshop participants explore the beauty and versatility of smalti through two hands-on studies. Grounded in tradition yet firmly contemporary, the workshop introduces the different types of smalti, their origins, and effective cutting approaches using both wheeled nippers and optionally, the hammer and hardie. Working directly into a cement-based adhesive, you’ll complete two studies: an introductory exercise to understand how smalti behaves in a cement bedding, followed by a second, more developed piece inspired by an Australian flower. Additional materials including stone, filati, and millefiori are available to support colour, texture, and expressive exploration.

Participants will be contacted ahead of the workshop and asked to select their choice of Australian Flower which will inform their extended study.
