This workshop meets 6 times via Zoom. It is the autumn Smithsonian Studio Arts offering. October 12, 19, 26, November 2, 9 & 16, 2021. AT THIS WRITING IT IS SOLD OUT.
Create a beautiful flower or floral bouquet inspired by nature in any mosaic material you wish. Depending on your flower and the materials you choose to work with we will determine the best method for your project. Class time will be lecture, demonstration, and hands-on, however, students can expect to work outside of class. Depending on the complexity of your design will dictate how much time your artwork will require.
Some of you will make a pattern and select materials using a detailed resource list. Others may “wing” it if working in more of a mixed-media manner. Sessions combine lectures, hands-on work, and student discussion. Topics covered include the principals of color, tone, perspective, classical and contemporary cutting techniques, and styles.
Please see the supply list for materials to purchase, best-practice preparation guidance, and more details. The first class will be a review of materials, substrates and cutting techniques. If students do not have materials for first-class no fret!! Class #1 is dedicated to introductions and getting everyone grounded (no pun intended, ha ha).
Instructor also has available a handful of patterns and photographs to be shared at first class.
$235 Members, $265 non-Members
