About Instructor

Workshop is hosted by Anything in Stained Glass in Frederick, MD. WORKSHOP IS SOLD OUT – HOWEVER, WE ARE QUITE A WAYS OUT SO PLEASE GET ADDED TO WAIT LIST BY CALLING ATISG TO BE ADDED TO THE WAIT LIST. WE EXPERIENCE ALOT OF MOVING BODIES!
Students create a mosaic interpretation of a master painting using stained glass. We will be working with the indirect face tape method, an important technique to have in your arsenal. This is a unique opportunity to learn the nuances of working in stained glass as a mosaic material while mastering a helpful fabrication method This video describes the process: Click here to YouTube.
The instructor provides images of inspirational art by great painters of the 20th century: Monet, Picasso, Matisse, and Van Gogh, to name a few. However, you are welcome to supply your own imagery. You must send to the instructor 2 weeks in advance for approval.
A separate $50 supply fee is payable to the Instructor on the first day of the workshop. It includes properly scaled images, additional copies to aid with pattern making, prepared substrate, all the design and fabrication tools needed, and grout. Works are for interior display only.
Images for students to select from in advance will be made available in late May. This workshop comes on the heels of Bonnie’s trip to Provence, where participants walked in the footsteps of Van Gogh, Cezanne, and other great artists.
Your overall workshop fee includes using grinders and other hand tools as needed (loan only during workshop hours). Also, access to ATISG scrap glass which is yummy!
Students are responsible for providing the following, all available at ATISG if you do not own:
stained glass for your project
WeldBond glue
good quality glass cutting tools (scorer and running plies)*
mosaic wheel nippers*
favorite picking tools (tweezers, dental tools, etc.)
safety glasses
Sharpie (thin and regular size can prove helpful), a pencil with an eraser, scissors
*ATISG can loan well-worn tools if you do not own them or are traveling via air (you can not pack tools in carry-on bags, they will be confiscated). I prefer LePonitt wheeled nippers, Breda’s or QEP Extremes.
Both Friday and Saturday span lunch hour; there are some local places, but many folks brown bag it. Bring a beverage. Wear close-toed shoes. ATISG store is open for your convenience throughout workshop hours.
Sign ups are through Anything in Stained Glass and you are subject to their cancellation policy.
Some stained glass or mosaic experience is helpful but not required. This workshop is 3 consecutive days. Sunday is a short day for finishing.
If you prefer to work on a substrate that is already fully framed here are two options, advise the instructor in advance, and $20 will be deducted from your supply fee. Our images are scaled to 12” x 12″ or 11″ x 14″ and are for interior display only. If you have any questions or concerns, drop the instructor a note.
