Travel Inspired Landscapes
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS WORKSHOP PLEASE DROP US A NOTE. WE ARE WAIT LISTING AS SPACE IS LIMITED TO ACCOMMODATE SOCIAL DISTANCING.
This workshop will be held at Maverick Mosaics’ home studio, under tents outside. Plan to dress appropriately. It’s Virginia. It’s hot and humid. Social distancing measures as best we can, asking all to wear masks as appropriate.
Do you have a favorite memory of a place you once visited? Or have a beautiful postcard of a place you have dreams of visiting. Let’s cement that image in mosaic. Working from photographs or master paintings students create an interior mosaic using materials of their choosing. Covered in class lecture are the principals of color, tone, perspective and cutting techniques. We will also present various techniques best suited for individual compositions.
Students provide his or her own inspiration art, however instructor must approve 1 week in advance so image can be prepared for use in the workshop. Instructor prepares images and provides substrate for students and this cost is factored into supply fee. Our projects will measure approximately 12″ x 12″ or 11″ x 14″, depending on image and cropping desired.
Students are responsible for providing their own glass, tiles, smalti or whatever you wish to work in for the majority of the project.
Separate supply fee includes substrate, adhesive, photo preparation, grout, supplemental mosaic materials including milleflori, wire, pebbles, shells, scrap glass and more. Please note if your work is destined to be grouted Maverick Mosaics will provide grout but grouting will not be done during workshop hours. Adhesives of choice are Weldbond or thin-set mortar.
Students can expect a great deal of personal instruction and guidance and no question will go unanswered.
If you own mosaic tools please bring, tools have a “memory”. Maverick Mosaics will loan tools as needed, drop us a note if you need a loan. A note will come from instructor a few days in advance with suggested tools, materials and how to best prepare. Remember student responsible for providing inspiration image.
Mosaic experience helpful but not required. Instructor will guide all students to create a project in line with student skill level and our time frame.
Workshop Hours: Sat. 10am – 5pm and Sunday 10am – 4pm. Brown bag lunch or lots of local eateries just a short drive for “to go”.
